last minute fathers day gift ideas

If you forgot, Father’s Day is this Sunday, 6/18.  I don’t think much about gifts for Father’s Day because I have a hard enough time to come up with gift ideas for my birthday.  As I have grown older, I have enjoyed spending time with family over the material gifts.  So, I like the experiences and the memories over the gifts. I know that’s not true for everyone, but it is for me. You can only take memories with you, not the material things!

With Father’s Day coming up fast, you only have a few days left to pick up a last minute gift.  Some people love to shop online, but doing it this late in the game will cost you a lot with shipping fees (unless you’re an Amazon Prime member – use this tips to save even more if you are).  You might not even get the gift on time.  I have decided to put together a last-minute Father’s Day gift guide that will hopefully suite your needs.

Last Minute Father’s Day Gift Ideas

Sometimes I feel like Father’s Day might take the back-seat to Mother’s Day. You don’t see as much advertising, except for maybe retailers clinging onto any holiday they can. While this doesn’t bother me much, it can make it hard to remember Father’s Day in general. I know it’s snuck up on me before and I’ve had to scramble to figure out a gift idea. Luckily for me, my father is really easy to shop for. He usually doesn’t want gifts, but rather just spending some time together. I know I owe him a golf game from last year. We will have to play that in the fall as we both don’t do well in the heat (#sweatfactory).

If you’re on the lookout for some cool gift ideas or just something that  your dad will love, then hopefully these last-minute gift ideas will help you. You can spend as much as little as you’d like here. It’s up to you and your family traditions.

Gift Cards

Who doesn’t love a gift card to their favorite store?  I am a fan of gift cards because I can get what I want.  You can either get some gifts cards from specific places like Dicks Sporting Goods, Bass Pro Shop, Golfsmith, or REI.  You can also just purchase a gift card that can be used at any retailer. Many of them can be found at your local grocery store. You also can’t go wrong with a good Amazon gift card (my favorite option). Gift cards are super easy to get and are the easiest last minute gift idea.

If you want to get discounts on gift cards, try out some of these suggestions.

Grooming Products

For the fathers out there that have facial hair (like me), it is super important to stay groomed and under control.  I have been cutting my own hair for the past 9 years to save money, but also because it is easy.  I have a hard time using my hair trimmer with my beard, so I like a beard trimmer.  I have a cordless hair/beard trimmer that works really well.  I am a fan of cordless trimmers for the convenience.  Make sure you get a lithium ion trimmer so it lasts longer and doesn’t die right in the middle of a trim.

Sporting Event/Sports Day

Oh, don’t we all love some sports.  A great gift idea is to buy the father in your life some tickets to his favorite sporting event.  If that doesn’t work for you, then why not give him some time on the golf course or let him get together with his friends to play football.  Whatever  sport your husband/father likes, then give him the chance to relax while watching the sport live or playing it. If they don’t have cable (like me), then give him a month or two of Sling TV, which has ESPN on it. You can cancel it after two months, but try to give it to him when his favorite games are going to be played. Check out my full Sling TV review.

You can also give him a subscription to DirecTV NOW, which is similar to Sling, but has some better features.

Beer Variety

I love beer.  I do a lot of home brewing and I create some flavors that I just don’t get at the grocery store.  Since brewing beer isn’t going to be quick or ready for Father’s Day, it would be better to go out and select a distinctive variety of beer.  I have purchased a wide variety of beer for my father and he has loved it.  I also have brewed him beer, but that took many weeks.  That gift idea went over extremely well. If your Dad loves beer, then go to a good beer store and find something he would really enjoy. Maybe even chill the beer for him before giving it as a gift.

DIY Gift

Are you good with your hands? How about making your dad something for Father’s Day? I love a little DIY, but sometimes the gifts can be a little cheesy. I’m not talking about a macaroni picture frame here. I’m talking about a well-thought out DIY gift. If you’re looking for inspiration, then check out Pinterest. There are some awesome DIY guides on there for anything your dad might like. This gift idea is especially good if you know they want something. I know some dads who love to garden. Create some garden boxes for them. If they love working with tools, build them a new workbench or tool holder. The options are only limited by your imagination (and wallet 🙂 ).

Free Day Off

What person doesn’t like a day off.  Our lives have become very hectic and it can be hard to have a day off.  Since I work from home and work hard at my business, a day off would be really nice. My wife has done this for me before and it was very special. I really enjoyed just playing with my son and not worrying about chores.  This doesn’t cost a thing except for time and a little energy, but a day off can go a long way!

Make a Favorite Meal or Dessert

Another thing that my wife has done for me was make me my favorite dessert.  I love cheesecake and my wife has an awesome recipe that I love.  There is nothing better than sitting down with a nice piece of cheesecake (or whatever dessert) and enjoying your day.  If you have the skills, then why not cook up your husband/father’s favorite meal and serve it to him. It can go a long way and it doesn’t cost much. You also get to spend some quality time together while eating your masterpiece.

So, there are my last-minute Father’s Day gift ideas.  I hope you enjoyed them and gave you some ideas for this upcoming Sunday.  Let me know what you are planning for this Father’s Day.

Do you have any great Father’s Day gift ideas for the last-minute shopper?

Grayson, these are really great gifts on Father’s Day. I am giving my father a bottle of perfume, his favorite one.
