For those that know me, I am always a fan of a good challenge. It doesn’t matter if it is a formal challenge or one that I created myself. If a challenge crosses my table, I will try my hardest to complete it. There are quite a few challenges going on this year that are pushing people to get control of their finances. The biggest one is called the Debt Movement. This challenge is asking people to pay off $10 million in only 90 days! Anyone can join, so if you are looking for motivation to pay off your debt, then join the movement.
While it is always a good idea to pay down your debts, that might not be your goal this year. There are many things that you can do with your money this year, so here is a challenge for you.
I was notified by Florida Credit Union about their “My Money Resolution Challenge“. Since FCU shares a lot of my content, I figured I would have to check out what this challenge was all about. Once I read into it, I was impressed. Here is a breakdown of what the challenge is all about.
This challenge is all about changing your finances, for the better! FCU wants to know how you plan on changing your finances in 2013 for the better. You could pay down debt, save for college, invest in your retirement, or many other things. Here are the steps to enter this great challenge.
- Create a short video – Make a video of how you plan to change your finances for the better in 2013. This could be anything that you can think of, but make sure that you are creative. This video has to impress FCU!
- Upload your video – After creating the video, you will need to upload it via Youtube. Once you have uploaded it, you will need to fill in the submission form on FCU’s My Money Resolution Challenge Facebook page.
- Hope and Vote – Once your submission is in, FCU will pick the top three videos and allow their fans to vote on the videos. If you create a creative video, then you should be picked to be in the top 3.
Some of you might ask what the prize of this challenge is. I believe there are two prizes. One is the prize that FCU is offering. The winner of this challenge gets a $250 FCU Visa Gift Card. The second prize if the motivation you get from making a video of your money resolution. When you take the time to put your money goal out in public, then you will be more than likely work harder to complete that goal.
My 2013 Money Resolution
I figured that while I can talk about this giveaway, I wanted to let you know what my 2013 money resolution is. Since getting out of credit card debt in July of 2012, I want to start doing something with my money. My money resolution this year is to invest in my future self. I am working on fully funding both my 401k and my Roth IRA. I want to make sure I secure my financial freedom when I am ready to retire.
If you are interested in a chance to win $250 and get your money resolution in progress, then get out your video camera and start recording. Make 2013 your year to make a financial change!

That’s a pretty great challenge. I know that my work tried something similar with dieting. Maybe I could talk them into a similar debt challenge. Thanks for sharing.

I would go for it. Challenges are great and I recommend them to stay on course.
It makes so much sense to invest in your future retirement. It’s something you can’t go back in time to do, and so many people end up not having enough money saved. I know we need to do more investing in our retirement funds, but for now we’re focusing on saving for an investment property for rental income when we do retire (and before).

That is a great goal to have KK. If you can get passive income through a rental property, then you can focus on more things. Good luck!
I like your 2013 goal. You should include monthly updates so we can see how well you are progressing.

Funny that you talk today about securing your retirement years; I just posted a blog about running into a guy who didn’t do that, and is living in regret now that he’s retirement age and has big financial problems.
Grayson, you’re so right: securing your financial freedom so that you’re ready when you want to retire is of the utmost importance. Good for you for taking the steps now to be ready for later!

Yeah, I don’t want to be one of those guys. I already waited too long to start saving, so I have a lot of work to do.
Debt Movement is not new for me. I am already familiar with it and took part in this competition. Many new traders and people are joining it. For me, “My Money Resolution Challenge“ is new and planning to take part in it as well.

I am glad that you are already in the debt movement. I hope the My Money Resolution challenge will work for you.
For 2013, part of my goal is to add up some money in our savings account. I am not getting any younger, it’s about time I work doubly hard to have a better retirement savings.

Good luck to you JG. That is a great goal to have.
Not to distract from the actual post but I checked out Plastic Jungle and I’m in love! I had dreams of buying discounted gift cards ahead of making major purchases (like a new fridge from home depot) and now it looks like I can make it a reality.
I have a major kitchen renovation coming up, these gift card discounts are going to do wonders!
